Scott & White will no longer hire tobacco users effective January 1st, 2013-

Scott & White has a unique perspective on the burden of chronic disease. We not only have a responsibility in treating disease, we play a vital role in educating patients and employees about lifestyle choices. Eliminating tobacco use from our system is an important part of that. It is also part of supporting a broader strategy of empowering employees to improve their health. Consistent with our commitment to healthy communities and workplaces, Scott and White is no longer hiring tobacco users effective January 1st, 2013 and beyond. This applies to users of all products containing nicotine, including, but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, electronic cigarettes, snuff and replacement nicotine. New hires will be required to attest that they do not use tobacco products and will be subject to random testing. Individuals who fail the testing will be disciplined up to and including termination. Our new tobacco policy is good for our employees, our visitors, our patients and the communities we serve. We believe it sends a strong message about the type of healthcare organization we strive to be.
